2007 proved to be an unprecedented success! Not only did we fill up camp this year,
58 out of 59 Scouts earned their respective merit badges! And we welcomed Scouts from
five districts in Mt. Diablo Silverado Council this year!
Our 2008 SPL Mark D. said it all when he said "I worked on my archery merit badge for THREE YEARS at
Wolfeboro and didn't earn it until I came to this camp." Now we all love and enjoy Wolfeboro,
but they don't have Rik Silva and Art Berg, our archery instructors! Rik and Art teamed up
with the Scouts to teach them the sport and help them work through the merit badges.
2008 will be our third annual Muir District Shooting Sports Merit Badge Camp
entirely dedicated to giving Scouts the opportunity to earn merit
badges in the three shooting sports; shotgun, rifle and archery. With
the coordination of the Martinez Gun Club, Briones Archers, The Bow
Rack, The Outdoor Sportsmen's Coalition of California and all the
dedicated volunteer NRA and BSA certified instructors, merit badge
counselors, and adult and Scout camp staff our Shooting Merit Badge
Camp has been a safe experience, a learning experience, a lot of fun
and a resounding success!
Our certified instructors, as well as shooting merit badge counselors, provide extensive safety instruction,
shooting qualification opportunities, and merit badge counselor sessions. Shooting and merit badge supplies are
included in camp costs.
This camp gives Scouts an opportunity only otherwise available at Scout summer camps.
In fact, this dedicated weekend gave them more hands-on qualifying shooting time than they normally get in a whole
week at summer camp where shooting merit badges are only a small portion of those camps!
Comments like "Worked hard but learned a lot" and "Made us earn it" prove the dedication and expertise of our
instructors and counselors.
Word is out, this is a successful program, be sure to sign up early for our 2008 camp!
